Essential Tips for Managing Dry Eye Syndrome

Dry Eye Disease, often called dry eye syndrome, is a common condition that occurs when your eyes don’t produce enough tears or when the tears evaporate too quickly. This can cause discomfort, and irritation, and even affect your overall vision. If you suffer from dry eye syndrome, you’re not alone. Millions of people around the world experience this discomfort, but fortunately, there are a few things you can do to manage the discomfort and symptoms, as well as proactively remedy the cause of over 85% of all dry eye cases…Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD).

1. Understand the Causes of Dry Eye Syndrome

Dry eyes can be caused by a variety of factors. Aging, hormonal changes, certain medications, and underlying medical conditions can all contribute to the main cause of dry eyes: clogs or blockages in the Meibomian glands. It’s important to understand what causes your dry eyes to better address and apply effective treatments, like EverTears®. The small compress is the latest treatment for dry eye syndrome and is the only product on the market that uses self-heating properties to dissolve blockages and, with regular use, return meibum to a liquid state – calming aggravating symptoms in and around your eyes.

2. Take Breaks from Screens

In addition to treating the symptoms directly, prevention can make treatment less necessary. Staring at a computer, tablet, or phone screen for extended periods can contribute to dry eye syndrome. Frequent breaks from screens at work, school, or during your personal time can help alleviate your symptoms, and improve productivity. If skipping the screen isn’t possible, try the 20/20/20 rule: every 20 minutes, take a 20-second break and look at something 20 feet away. This is an effective way to not only treat your eyes to a much-deserved break, but to also re-focus before returning to what you were doing.

3. Stay Hydrated

Drinking enough water is essential for your overall health, but it’s especially important if you suffer from dry eye syndrome. While chugging glasses of water won’t miraculously cure dry eyes, dehydration can exacerbate dry eye symptoms.  Drinking plenty of water throughout the day remains good, simple advice for keeping your body functioning at an optimal level of performance.

4. Avoid Dry Air and Direct Air Flow

Exposure to dry air or direct airflow from fans or air conditioning can make your symptoms worse. Use a humidifier to add moisture to the air in your home or office. If that isn’t an option, EverTears® is also a great way to take a quick medi-spa break, close your eyes and relieve eye strain while remedying persistent symptoms.

5. Protect Your Eyes

Protecting your eyes may seem like a call for protective wear, and while sunglasses or glasses can help protect your eyes from wind and dust, protection can also be less of a fashion choice. The best protection for your eyes is a well-guarded tear film. By using EverTears® to help unblock meibomian glands and restore the flow of protective oils to your eyes, you can help prevent excessive evaporation of your natural tear fluids, which is the best protection your eyes can ask for.

Sorting through all of the latest treatments for dry eye syndrome can be challenging, but with these essential tips, you can help significantly decrease, or even fully alleviate your symptoms and drastically improve your quality of life with prevention and remedy through EverTears®.
