The Prospective Health Assessment of Cataract Patients’ Ocular Surface (PHACO) study

Despite the generally positive outcomes of cataract surgery, some patients are dissatisfied with their postoperative result due to a suboptimal refractive outcome that may be the result of unresolved issues on the ocular surface. Ongoing and increasing awareness of these issues has led to anterior segment surgeons commonly performing an array of preoperative evaluations and prescribing treatments to optimize the ocular surface and ensure the health of the cornea and retina before patients undergo cataract surgery.
